Our mission is to reinvigorate the bunker space as both a historical memorial but also for modern use by local artists, charities and the Camberwell community.

The nuclear bunker represents an important piece of history for Camberwell. Built in a time of great fear and in anticipation of horrific nuclear war, the bunker was built so that local government could continue to undertake administrative duties to serve those who survived an attack. Although a bleak memorial, the bunker acts as a reminder of a time when humanity stood at the precipice of destruction.

Currently the land and underlying bunker is owned and neglected by a private individual. Our vision is to acquire the bunker and transform it into a museum, gallery and training and employment opportunity for the people of Camberwell and Southwark.

The first step is to find a way to bring the land back in to public ownership. As we understand it, because of the historical nature of the land and the structures underneath it, conventional domestic or commercial property cannot be built on top. This opens the possibility of a Compulsory Purchase Order for the land. This would then provide a method to socially regenerate the land for Camberwell.
